For HVAC techs... I am a oil tech doing my first heat pump hybrid. I need some help with the low voltag wiring?
It's an older oil furnace with a Honeywell R8184M control with R,W,G,Y,C. terminals as usual. The heat pump is an Armstrong 2SHP13 with terminals W1,C,L,R,O,Y1. The thermostat is a Honeywell vision pro 8000 Th832ou with terminals R,Rc,C,Y,Y2,AUX,G,E,L,O/B, S1,S2. S1 andS2 are for an outdoor temp sensor that I am using. Please help! Best answer promised!
refer to the t8000 install guide,page 5 under "wiring guide" for heat pump systems...your system will be considered a 2H/1C heat pump [with auxiliary heat]...tstat wiring is the usual.....w-wire connected to the aux terminal for the furnace...install jumper from e to aux per the instructions...y-yellow wire turns on the outdoor contacter....o/b orange wire for the reversing valve in the outside unit...g-green wire turns on furnace fan.......note that the orange wire from tstat and odu are connected at the furnace with wire nut but not connected to anything on the furnace....you need to run at least 8-conducter wire from furnace to tstat and from furnace to odu...you will connect both red wires to R at furnace,,both yellows to Y,,both blue wires [common] to C....single green from tstat to G..single white from tstat to W......the yellow wire at the tstat connects to Yat tstat,,y2 wont be used in this application.....be sure to set up the menu options correctly at the tstat per instructions beginning on page 6........on option #170 you will choose 7.....on option #200 choose 1.....on option #210 choose 0 ...i assume the tstat controls everything,,no "fossil fuel kit" at furnace is necessary.........the rest of the options are for you to decide or leave as they are...i assume the heat pump reversing valve is energized in the cooling mode,,so option #190 choose 0....but verify that is correct by running heat pump before you leave in the heat mode,,check that the air temp at regesters is above room temp,not below....if its cooling when it should be heating then choose 1 on option #190.......the only thing i'm not sure about is how to safely run furnace some during defrost so customer doesnt get cold air for 5 minutes...but i would not connect the white wire from odu to w terminal at furnace because if furnace runs for the whole defrost it will be too much heat on the a-coil...so i would leave white wire between odu and furnace disconnected...the heat pump shouldnt defrost much anyway if you choose 40 degrees as your changeover temp from heat pump to furnace on option #350 ...for option #360 choose the factory default of 0 so the tstat will automatically run the furnace above 40 deg outside temp if the heat pump cant do it...in other words,you want to lock out the heat pump from running when its below 40 deg,but you do NOT want to lock out the furnace above 40 deg..if you lock out the furnace above 40 deg,then they will have no heat above 40 deg if heat pump malfunctions...****i have been using the word "option" above when i should have using the term in the install instructions "setup function",sorry...also,,i dont do oil heat,,so i am assuming the furnace transformer has enough v a to energize the fan relay,contacter,and reversing valve together....hope this helps.......dan
